Do you ever worry that if you take care of your needs, you will disappoint others?

The feeling of guilt is unique from feeling sad or upset – guilt often combines feelings of shame, anxiety, frustration, and humiliation. These emotions can build over time, affecting your sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

Regardless of where the guilt comes from, the stress of the guilt itself can have a serious effect on your wellbeing.

When you start to think too much about what others are going to say or to do if you say NO instead of YES, it is a sign that you are denying yourself and your authenticity. You are not respecting your personal boundaries and somehow abandoning yourself in the process.

The truth is you believe that you are responsible for the way people feel. You are afraid of being judged, so you diminish your values to make people feel comfortable.

RED FLAG: your responsibility is to take care of YOURSELF FIRST…because you matter!

This week pay attention to how you are prioritising people’s expectations at work, with your family, friends, or relationship.

Be honest with yourself about what you really want and find the courage to make your priorities clear by voicing what is important for you.

“A good rule of thumb is that any environment that consistently leaves you feeling bad about who you are is the wrong environment.” ~Laurie Helgoe
